Toyota Prius
Toyota Prius is available in 2 versions, both of them hybrid, that is a mix of petrol and electricity. This is a sleek looking sedan and is the first mass production hybrid car in the world. There is a Nickel-Metal Hydride battery inside the bonnet, which, when coupled with the 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder, twin-cam petrol engine, produces a power of 134 bhp and a torque of 142 Nm. The mileage of the Prius is an impressive 23.9 km/l and costs 38.10-38.80 lakhs.
BMW i8
This is another hybrid car, albeit in the luxury car segment. Costing 2.29 crores, the i8 has an electric motor and petrol engine. The petrol engine is a 1.5 liter, twin power turbo, 3 cylinder one, generating a power of 231 hp and torque of 320 Nm. The electric motor generates 131 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The most impressive feature of i8 is that the mileage of the combined petrol and electric motor is 47.45 km/l, which has never been recorded in any car.
Toyota Camry Hybrid
Toyota Camry Hybrid, costing 31.92 lakhs, sold in 7 colors, is another hybrid car, which is quite popular in India. The mileage of this car is 19.16 km/l, which is quite good, considering that the size of the car is big. The petrol engine is a 2.5 liter one, giving out a power of 158 bhp, and the electric motor gives a power of 44 bhp. The battery is a 245V Nickel-metal hydride one and is fixed in the boot, under a plastic cover.
Mahindra e2o
Mahindra e2o is a complete electric car, which is incorporated with a 48V Lithium-ion maintenance free battery which has the Quick2Charge technology, enabling a full charge of the battery in just 1 hour. Mahindra has fitted this car with most of the features that are present in fuel run cars. So this car, in addition to having all the salient features, has an additional feature of non-polluting, which makes it a great car for the future. The cost of e2o is 5.96 lakhs.
Maruti has launched its Ciaz Hybrid, in August 2015 and it is touted to be the most fuel efficient among hybrid cars, with a mileage of 28.09 km/l. Maruti is planning to launch Swift Hybrid in 2017.
