  1. Bypass and Reset Your Password

These days, it’s recommended that you have a different password for every account. That could mean that you end up with dozens of different passwords that you have to remember. So it makes sense that you might forget some of them every so often.

Thankfully, there are a couple of things that you can do the next time you forget what your computer password is.

First, you can go into Recovery Mode. To do this, turn off the computer. Press and hold Command + R, and then press the power button.

Hold down Command + R until the progress bar shows up under the Apple logo on the computer screen. Your Mac is now in Recovery Mode.

In the Menu bar, go to Utilities and then go to Terminal. A window is going to pop up. Type “resetpassword” but without the quotes. Now, press Return.

Close out the Terminal windows and you’ll see the Reset Password Tool. There’s going to be a list of all of the user accounts that are on your computer. If you reset the password for your user account, you’re also going to have to set a new password for all of the other users as well.

Apple ID

You can also change your password with Apple ID. After you enter the wrong password a couple of times, the computer should ask you if you would like to reset your password with your Apple ID.

You can also click on the question mark icon that’s in the password text field. Then, click on the arrow icon.

Enter your email address and password associated with your Apple ID. A pop-up alert is going to let you know that a new keychain will be created to store your passwords. Select OK.

Follow the prompts that come up and you’ll be able to set a new password for your user account.

  1. Do Currency Conversions and Calculations in Spotlight

One of the most underrated features on Mac computers is Spotlight. When you know how to use this tool, you’ll be able to get around your device faster and without even needing a mouse or trackpad.

Two of the most helpful functions of Spotlight are that can convert currencies and also act as a calculator.

In order to open Spotlight, click on the magnifying glass icon that can be found at the top left corner of the menu bar. You can also bring up Spotlight by pressing Command + Space bar on the keyboard.

If you want to use it as a calculator, just type in what you want to calculate. The answer will then automatically appear as the search result. You can then copy and paste the answer if you’d like.

If you want to use Spotlight to convert currency, then type in the amount that you’d like to convert. And remember to include the currency symbol.

In the search results, you’ll see the conversion rates in a variety of different currencies.
